Aulanko recreation area on the eastern side of the city Hämeenlinna is a beautiful and valuable natural area and Nation Park, whose core consists of a conservation area covering 160 hectares. The area as a whole encompasses 428 hectares and has 4.5 km of shoreline. The area has a swimming beach, a covered fire ring, marked trails for joggers and hikers, a gym rack, a volleyball court, a cabin, a cafe and an granite observation tower. The area is open throughout the year. Aulanko is a part of Hämeenlinna National Town Park.
The recreation area is owned by the City of Hämeenlinna, and the conservation area is owned by the National Board of Forestry.
