Temporary overnight stay is permitted in tents, or in lean-to shelters/tents, based on the Finnish concept of Everyman's Right, or "jokamiehen oikeus" as well as responsible behaviour on the part of visitors.

  • Building fires is only allowed in designated areas with fire rings, in accordance with fire safety regulations. It is forbidden to make a fire even in designated areas in times of forest fire warning. You may only use firewood reserved for this purpose or pieces of wood found on the ground. Growing trees may not be used for building fires. Special care must always be taken when making a fire.
  • You may swim, hike as well as pick berries and mushrooms in the recreational areas. When moving in the area, Everyman's Rights well as responsibilities apply, to make sure that the area stays clean and inviting. TAKE ALL REFUSE AWAY WITH YOU, especially plastic, glass and metal, or put it in a waste bin in the area. Regional restrictions apply in national parks and sanctuary areas. Special local guidelines must be followed especially during the bird-nesting season in the spring and early summer, ensuring safe and undisturbed nesting.
  • Fishing permits can be obtained from the local fishery association. Permits allowing fly-fishing in the entire province are sold in post offices.
