The recreation area consisting of Tervaniemi and Soininsaari is situated in Alajärvi in Hämeenlinna. Tervaniemi covers 98 hectares and has 1.5 km of shoreline, and Soininsaari covers 16 hectares and has 2.4 km of shoreline. Tervaniemi has a big sandy beach suitable for swimming, a boat shore and a boat landing, a covered fire ring, a volleyball court, a lit 3.5 km jogging/skiing trail and a hiking trail going around Terva-niemi. Soininsaari has a fire ring and a log shelter, a hiking trail and a swimming beach. Tervaniemi is separated from Soininsaari by a 3-km stretch of water.
Tervaniemi is owned by the City of Hämeenlinna. Soininsaari is owned by the municipalities of Hämeenlinna and Hattula.
